The playlist was the “Decades of Rock” — the kind of music that everyone knows the words to — and the floor was jumping with swirls, twirls, and fancy footwork. Favorite songs, friends, and fun added up to a fantastic evening!

Art has always been a source of social commentary, holding up a mirror to ourselves and our ideas. This is the mission of The Hammer Museum, which seeks to showcase art that illuminates our lives. The Museum opened to the public in November 1990 and in 1994, UCLA assumed the management and operations of the institution. The Hammer Museum, named for Dr. Armand Hammer, is now one of three public arts institutions of the School of the Arts and Architecture at UCLA. MonteCedro residents enjoyed a beautiful and thought-provoking morning exploring the museum, followed by lunch and lively conversation inspired by the museum’s collection.

Our intrepid residents recently had the opportunity to participate in a docent-led tour of the Crescent Farm at the L.A. Arboretum. Crescent Farm is a remarkable 13-year project developed in response to the 2013 California drought. The L.A. Arboretum is a unique 127-acre botanical garden and historical site whose mission is to “cultivate our natural, horticultural and historic resources for learning, enjoyment and inspiration.” It was a beautiful and educational day for all. Thank you to the team at the L.A. Arboretum for being such wonderful hosts.
