February Events

February always seems to fly by. It may be a short month, but our community doesn’t slow down. The events calendar was filled with activities and MonteCedro residents showed once again why they are famous for their spirit. Whether it’s on campus, or on an outing in the greater community, our days are filled with adventure, laughter, and friendship.

Balance and Flow

Intentional and centered. Our Tai Chi class brings movement, balance, and breath together, helping residents with focus, posture, and peace of mind. These classes help improve and maintain balance, coordination, and muscle tone, ensuring residents can enjoy all of life’s possibilities.

Olympic Walk

We had a vibrant walk in honor of the Winter Olympics. Residents walked for 30 minutes, with the moral support of goats from Hello Critter that joined them on their journey. Laughter and camaraderie was shared, as residents enjoyed the beautiful morning! All the participants received finisher medals adorned with the Olympic torch followed by light refreshments. There is no better way to start the day than with a bit of exercise mixed with joy!

Lunar New Year

We celebrated the “Year of the Fire Horse” at our annual Lunar New Year event. Fenton Fong has been an instructor of Kung Fu and Tai Chi at MonteCedro for many years and some of his students took part in the event, inspiring residents with their graceful movements. From the lion dance, with four beautiful lions to all the amazing students from Fenton’s studio, it was a wonderful event. Afterwards, everyone gathered in Station 8 for a Lunar New Year themed happy hour.

Emergency Preparedness

The Leadership team came together with residents who chair the Emergency Committee to complete a table top emergency training program. Presented with a scenario, participants were tasked with activating and working through the Emergency Command protocols and procedures. The exercise was beneficial to all involved.

Love Songs

Residents got together to fill the auditorium with song, just in time for Valentine’s Day. With the karaoke machine fired up and a lineup of love songs and show tunes, it was a fun and fantastic evening.

Happy Valentine’s Day

Cupid’s day is always a special day at MonteCedro. This year, residents enjoyed a love-filled happy hour and a special Valentine’s Day menu for dinner. The evening was awash in red and pink, humming with happy voices, delicious food, delectable sweets, and the spirit of togetherness that defines the community.

Outings

Lights, Camera, Action

This month, residents visited “The Hollywood Museum” for a day of exploring, and lunch at the famous “Mel’s Diner.” Everyone enjoyed viewing the iconic memorabilia and taking a step back in time. Burgers and malted milkshakes were the popular choice at lunch, adding to the fun and nostalgic day.

Outings

Historia del Arte

Residents enjoyed a trip to The Huntington to view the “Radical Histories” exhibit that focused on the incredible work of Chicano printmakers over the last 6 decades. Most of the art work came from The Smithsonian’s permanent collection. Afterwards, residents enjoyed time to explore the museum’s beautiful gardens and then relaxed over lunch.
