    Chad Edwards Band

    Pianist Chad Edwards has been active in the LA area jazz scene for more than four decades, performing in a wide range of musical settings. His first CD “Resolution” received critical acclaim, featuring a mix of original compositions and fresh arrangements of jazz standards. His album, “Wyoming Roads” was released in May 2024, and is receiving enthusiastic reviews. Please join us for this exceptional afternoon of music.

Join us for what will be a moving and memorable performance.

    The Romantic and the Impressionist with Paul and Stephanie

    This musical duo performs the iconic Brahms Violin Concerto, Brahms’ only violin concerto. In addition, they will perform the delicate music of Eric Satie, famed for his work the Gymnopédies. A must for all music lovers.

    A Concise Chronicle of Piano Music from Bach to Bartok, Part II

    Dr. Vatché Mankerian holds a doctor of musical arts degree from USC’s Thornton School of Music and began teaching at the Pasadena Conservatory of Music in 1988. Join him as he discusses the history of piano music, the popularization of the solo recital and how the piano was finally established as the king of musical instruments. This series of lecture-recitals will chronicle the development of characteristic works for piano by some of the greatest composers.

    Extra Hour: Why Strength Training is Essential for Aging Well

    Join Regional Fitness Director Cesar Barragan and Fitness Instructor Julian Love as they discuss how strength training supports independence, balance, bone health, and overall quality of life as we age. Come learn why maintaining muscle is important for staying active, and see the demonstration of simple strength exercises. They will also discuss how personal training can provide support for those looking to build confidence and create a fitness routine that fits their lifestyle.

    “A Remarkable Story” with Zoot Velasco and Altadena Heritage

    Zoot was severely burned as an infant, losing the muscles in his right foot, yet went on to a 12-year career as a professional dancer, actor, and international touring artist working with Prince, Michael Jackson, Arsenio Hall, and James Cameron among others. In addition to raising more than $32 million for various organizations, he built four art centers for the City of LA, a Boys & Girls Club, and a Theatre for the City of Long Beach. Join us to hear his remarkable story.

    February always seems to fly by. It may be a short month, but our community doesn’t slow down. The events calendar was filled with activities and MonteCedro residents showed once again why they are famous for their spirit. Whether it’s on campus, or on an outing in the greater community, our days are filled with adventure, laughter, and friendship.

    Balance and Flow

    Intentional and centered. Our Tai Chi class brings movement, balance, and breath together, helping residents with focus, posture, and peace of mind. These classes help improve and maintain balance, coordination, and muscle tone, ensuring residents can enjoy all of life’s possibilities.

    Olympic Walk

    We had a vibrant walk in honor of the Winter Olympics. Residents walked for 30 minutes, with the moral support of goats from Hello Critter that joined them on their journey. Laughter and camaraderie was shared, as residents enjoyed the beautiful morning! All the participants received finisher medals adorned with the Olympic torch followed by light refreshments. There is no better way to start the day than with a bit of exercise mixed with joy!

    Lunar New Year

    We celebrated the “Year of the Fire Horse” at our annual Lunar New Year event. Fenton Fong has been an instructor of Kung Fu and Tai Chi at MonteCedro for many years and some of his students took part in the event, inspiring residents with their graceful movements. From the lion dance, with four beautiful lions to all the amazing students from Fenton’s studio, it was a wonderful event. Afterwards, everyone gathered in Station 8 for a Lunar New Year themed happy hour.

    Emergency Preparedness

    The Leadership team came together with residents who chair the Emergency Committee to complete a table top emergency training program. Presented with a scenario, participants were tasked with activating and working through the Emergency Command protocols and procedures. The exercise was beneficial to all involved.

    Love Songs

    Residents got together to fill the auditorium with song, just in time for Valentine’s Day. With the karaoke machine fired up and a lineup of love songs and show tunes, it was a fun and fantastic evening.

    Happy Valentine’s Day

    Cupid’s day is always a special day at MonteCedro. This year, residents enjoyed a love-filled happy hour and a special Valentine’s Day menu for dinner. The evening was awash in red and pink, humming with happy voices, delicious food, delectable sweets, and the spirit of togetherness that defines the community.

    This month, residents visited “The Hollywood Museum” for a day of exploring, and lunch at the famous “Mel’s Diner.” Everyone enjoyed viewing the iconic memorabilia and taking a step back in time. Burgers and malted milkshakes were the popular choice at lunch, adding to the fun and nostalgic day.

    Historia del Arte

    Residents enjoyed a trip to The Huntington to view the “Radical Histories” exhibit that focused on the incredible work of Chicano printmakers over the last 6 decades. Most of the art work came from The Smithsonian’s permanent collection. Afterwards, residents enjoyed time to explore the museum’s beautiful gardens and then relaxed over lunch.
