    Hernan is a world traveler who shares his knowledge of other destinations he’s explored and the people who have left a lasting impact. Join him as he looks back over the remarkable life of a remarkable woman, Queen Elizabeth II.

    The Genius of Michail Baryshnikov

    Join Elizabeth Kaye, award-winning author, editor and dance historian. Via Zoom, she explores the life and talent of Mikhail Baryshnikov. He is hailed as the greatest male dancer of all time. His brilliance dazzled audiences and in this talk, we will see him in many of his most stellar roles.

    Armchair Astronomer — Comets: Interstellar Vagabonds

    Ken Vanlew, retired astronomy & physics teacher, joins us via Zoom to share his insights. As of 2026, only 3 interstellar comets have been discovered. These bodies from outer space pass by the Sun and planets on a one-time trip never to return. They race through the solar system on hyperbolic orbits too fast to be captured by the Sun’s gravity. Join us to learn more about these interstellar vagabonds with Ken.

    Timeless Melodies — 1955 The Year in Music

    Join Timeless Melodies and guest Larry Maurer for this presentation of 1955 The Year In Music. Always entertaining, this longstanding program is a huge hit with residents. Larry brings video clips and a vast knowledge of music and the Great American Songbook.

    Be FAST! Stroke Education

    Stroke is a leading cause of death and disability, but almost all strokes can be prevented. Erin Gillbank, Stroke Program Manager, RN for Providence Mission Hospital’s Comprehensive Stroke program, will share invaluable information on stroke prevention, warning signs and treatment options.

    Parkinson’s Disease

    Join us as we welcome Dr. Neal Hermanowicz, Neurologist in the Parkinson’s and Movement Disorders Program at Hoag’s Pickup Family Neurosciences Institute. Parkinson’s disease is the world’s fastest-growing neurological disorder, surpassing Alzheimer’s disease, yet researchers still do not know its exact cause. Treatments continue to improve, but a cure remains elusive. Dr. Hermanowicz will discuss the diagnosis of Parkinson’s Disease, treatments, and the status of current research.

    Meet George Washington

    Historical impressionist Peter M. Small portrays George Washington, separating fact from myth while exploring America’s founding father. He has performed nationwide, including at the Richard Nixon Presidential Library and Museum, Ronald Reagan Presidential Library, Herbert Hoover Presidential Library and Museum, and George Bush Presidential Library and Museum.

    Buckle up for some memorable armchair travel. Hernan is a world traveler and his presentations take us to remarkable places, as he shares history and trivia from favorite destinations.

    LA, Touch Of Fashion

    We hosted a great fashion show with LA, Touch of Fashion. Residents were on the catwalk with some of the boutique’s latest items. Following the fashion show, the boutique hosted a pop-up shop in Schumacher Hall.

    Our Creative Living program offered a silk scarf painting class. Residents were able to create beautiful, wearable art.

    OKTOBERFEST!

    Residents enjoyed a special social event at our Pavillion, celebrating the season. With beer tasting, German–inspired food, a band and dancing, a little bit of Bavaria came to Orange County.

    Resident showcasing her art

    This month, resident Rebecca Tantama showcased her art. During a social hour, she talked about her inspiration for her distinctive work. She has taken an immersive program at Saddleback College in Chinese painting, and the result of this training is reflected in her work. Her art is showcased throughout the community, for all to enjoy.

    Mike Chamberlin

    Mike Chamberlin has been singing as long as he’s been talking. By high school, he was entrenched in Rock ‘N Roll music and signed by a record label. He has been performing professionally for almost 50 years and brought his depth of talent and energy to a packed audience.

    Walking Club

    The Covington Walking Club is always exploring parts of our region. Recently the group spent a beautiful day in Irvine as they visited Woodbridge Lake. The calming water, surrounded by lush greenery, creates a sense of peace and tranquility. The straight, paved walk welcomes a range of mobility levels.

    The Walking Club also visited Nix Nature Center at Laguna Coast Wilderness Park. The Nix Nature Center is the gateway for visitors to explore a vast network of linked trails throughout the 20,000-acre South Coast Regional Wilderness. It features award-winning interpretive exhibits and an ongoing series of educational programs, guided hikes and other activities.

    A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder

    Residents attended a matinée performance at one of our Creative Living Partners, Laguna Playhouse. “A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder” is a Tony Award-winning musical that’s a perfect blend of big laughs, wicked plot twists, and impossibly quick costume changes. It’s a madcap romp through Edwardian England where the bodies pile up, the laughs roll in, and love proves to be the deadliest weapon of all. The afternoon began with a wine and cheese reception before residents settled into their seats for what the New York Times called “Ingenious…among the most inspired new musical comedies.”

    Outings

    St. Michael’s Abbey

    Last month, residents enjoyed a field trip to the newly built St. Michael’s Abbey in Silverado Canyon. They joined the Norbertine Fathers for midday prayer and heard the chanting of the psalms in their breathtaking new church — a true architectural masterpiece. The sanctuary and chapels are adorned with stunning mosaics and paintings by world-renowned Italian artists, including tributes to Our Lady of Guadalupe and the Blessed Virgin Mary.
