From live theater and furry friends to museums and boat cruises, last month was filled with events and outings at The Canterbury. Below are some of the activities that residents enjoyed.

At The Canterbury
The wit and wisdom of Neil Simon was on full display at Readers Theater this month in a performance of “The Odd Couple”. As sharp and relevant today as it was when it debuted on Broadway in 1965, the afternoon was filled with fun and laughter.

At The Canterbury
This Halloween, residents and staff really got into character and the creativity was impressive. The inventive, colorful costumes brought an air of ghoulish fun to the day. Violinist Paul Stein shared his talent this spooky season for Happy Hour. On a sad note, staff were disappointed to learn their costumes would not be replacing normal attire during the rest of the year.

At The Canterbury
The Blessing of the Animals is always a special event at The Canterbury. Chaplain Celeste blessed each animal, either in person or by photo, even sending prayers to those that have crossed the rainbow bridge. All our furry friends enjoyed this special moment just for them.

At The Canterbury
The annual Sports Day at The Canterbury is a chance for residents and team members alike to show off their colors and don their favorite team’s jersey or cap. The day was full of spirited fun, made more so by our very own Los Angeles Dodgers chasing another World Series title. [spoiler alert: The Dodgers won!]

At The Canterbury
Residents worked with instructor Tom Trulove to create beautiful pieces of jewelry. Tom has 32 years of experience as a clay potter and jewelry maker. He has been an active member of the Torrance Craftsman’s Guild, the Palos Verdes Art Center 3-Dimension Art Group and the Palos Verdes Art Center PV Painters Arts Group. Tom shared his insight to teach residents how to transform pieces of colored glass into stunning pendants.

Outings
Residents enjoyed a day out at The Getty Villa, the stunning architectural masterpiece in Pacific Palisades. Home to one of the world’s great private art collections, the villa’s serene gardens provide the perfect ambience for artistic reflection. It was a wonderful day of exploration, followed by a lovely lunch.

Outings
Residents attended a great show, “The Starlets”. Inspired by iconic trailblazers like The Ronettes, The Angels, The Shirelles, and The Supremes, this sensational tribute act takes the audience on a dazzling journey through the 1950s and ’60s — a time when Pop, Doo-Wop, R&B, and Motown ruled the airwaves. The Canterbury is proud to be a community partner of the South Bay Community Concert Association in Redondo Beach. We look forward to attending many more shows.
