    August Events

Expression, reflection, and savoring the joys of life have been a big part of the last month at The Covington. We have been painting, attending the theater, and taking charge of our wellness. You’ll find no moss here.

    An Artistic Community

The Covington is home to dozens of great artists, painters, and musicians. Some of this artistic genius was on display recently at the Resident Art Gallery. The event showcased a vibrant collection of works from artists, many of whom are students of The Covington’s popular art class. There was strong focus on large-scale canvases and triptych compositions at the exhibit. The oversized canvases present an immersive visual experience and triptych pieces—artworks presented across three connected panels—add a sense of storytelling and continuity. It is so wonderful to see our neighbors and their paintings getting the exposure they deserve.

    Yes, Chef!

Recently, Executive Sous Chef Josh Pera and Director of Dining Services Walter Rowin hosted an educational culinary demonstration exploring one of Mexico’s most fascinating traditions: mole. Of course, no culinary seminar is complete without a tasting. Chef Josh prepared Mole Coloradito with chicken and rice. These demonstrations are an opportunity not only to enjoy something delicious, but also to explore the history, culture, and craftsmanship behind the foods we eat.

    Thirst Quenching

Health and wellness are a core component of daily life at The Covington and we are keen to stay proactive in maintaining our overall well-being. This month, Fitness Coordinator Federico provided much needed information during his Extra Hour presentation on Fitness Under the Sun. One of his main focuses was the importance of staying hydrated during these hot days of summer. His key message: Drink before you’re thirsty. That’s good advice for any age. Thank you, Federico, for all the work that you do to help keep us at our best!

I Scream, You Scream, We All Scream For Ice Cream

This past month was an ideal time for a sweet, cool treat. And nothing beats the heat like ice cream. Ms. Debbie’s ice cream truck stopped by with a selection of favorites for us to enjoy.

    Making Music

Independent Living residents who are members of the Ukulele Club brought their musical talents to Canyon House, the Assisted Living community, for a special afternoon of music and fun. The performance was part of a festive happy hour celebrating the islands with a lively luau theme. Dressed in Hawaiian-inspired attire, the Ukulele Club members brought the island spirit to life as they entertained the audience with favorites such as “Somewhere Over the Rainbow.” A festive tiki bar added to the celebration, giving everyone a taste of the islands and creating a wonderful afternoon of music, connection, and community.

    Theater-Bound

A group of us attended Menopause the Musical! The story is about four women at a lingerie sale bonding over hot flashes, night sweats and memory loss. The comedy is set to classic parodies from the baby boomer era, and it had us all laughing.

    Pageant of the Masters

Recently, we attended the stunning Pageant of the Masters at Festival of Arts of Laguna Beach. This year’s theme was “The Greatest of All Time”, celebrating the art and artists who have defined history. This masterful production took us on an unforgettable journey through the works of Michelangelo, Picasso, Monet, Van Gogh, Velázquez, Norman Rockwell and more. We also visited the works of some of the 100 artists from Orange County who make up the Festival of Arts Fine Art Show, including Becky Ryan, a remarkable watercolorist. It was an inspiring and unforgettable experience.
