    January events

    Welcome to 2026.

With 2025 behind us, residents and staff at The Canterbury are ready to embrace an exciting year of opportunity and new experiences. As always, residents are the driving force of our social, event, and activity calendar, and 2026 is off to a great start.

    Ringing in the New Year

Residents at The Canterbury love to celebrate, and our New Year’s Eve soirée was once once again a lively affair. Residents and staff gathered for a special violin performance by the very talented Ken (a resident of The Canterbury), accompanied on the piano by his friend Anne. Together, we toasted with champagne and cider while enjoying a delicious spread prepared by our Executive Chef, Aaron Hernandez. With a New York ball drop we all cheered and welcomed 2026!

    The Creative Spirit

    Flower Frame
The incredible artistic talent within our community was again on display at a Flower Frame class. Using a variety of faux flowers, residents arranged them into beautiful displays within a picture frame to create stunning, three-dimensional art.

    Bright Bold and Beautiful
This month in Fun to Create with Susan, residents learned how to design their own bright, fresh flower arrangements. They were able to take home their beautiful works to enjoy in their home.

    A New Perspective

The Canterbury is proud to be part of the ECS family of active senior living communities, an organization at the forefront of senior care, support, and lifestyle. Recently, ECS staff came together for a new and powerful training experience. Through immersive learning and hands-on training exercises, more than 30 team members became Certified Dementia Practitioners. From caregivers and nurses to dining and transportation staff, everyone walked away with new tools and a deeper understanding of how to support residents with empathy and respect.

Southern California offers so many opportunities for adventure, discovery, and learning. Recently, some residents visited the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures. The incredible exhibits, iconic film history, and immersive storytelling made for an unforgettable experience, celebrating the magic of movies. We followed it with a wonderful lunch to make the day complete.

Recently, a group from the community took a fun and informative trip to the Los Angeles Maritime Museum. They enjoyed VIP treatment, which included a private tour led by Museum Director, Marifrances Trivelli. It was a beautiful day for exploring and learning about the history of the Port of Los Angeles.
