Men’s Breakfast

Every month, many of the gentlemen of The Covington gather for a delicious breakfast, conversation and laughs. Each month, they visit a new restaurant, and once a quarter they meet for breakfast in our community.

Performances

Hollywood Revisited — Greg Schreiner has been purchasing actual Hollywood costumes from the Golden Era of Hollywood. He and his troop of actors wear costumes and perform a song and dance from the movie for which the costume was created.

Outings

  • Residents attended a nature walk with one of our Creative Living partners, Laguna Canyon Foundation, which protects 22,000 acres of wilderness for future generations. They visited the beautiful James Dilley greenbelt preserve
  • In early July, residents spent a memorable (and delicious) day at the Ecology Center, a non-profit that supports a 28-acre organic farm, Farm Stand and ecological education center in the heart of San Juan Capistrano. Art Corish gave an informative tour of the property, and residents were able to pick some fruit. A delicious lunch was enjoyed at the café.
  • Residents attended a Women in History Cemetery Tour at Fairhaven Memorial Park in Santa Ana. A range of remarkable women of Orange County have their final resting place here, including Corrie Ten Boom who wrote “The Hiding Place,” a book about the Holocaust. Also buried here is Evelun Ojeda, the first woman in Orange Country to win a gold medal in the 1932 Olympics. Also in the cemetery are Clara Cushman, the first female attorney in Orange County and Dr. Hester Olewiler, the first female OB/GYN in Orange County. Learning about their stories allowed us all to understand the impact women had on shaping Southern California.

Crafts

This month’s creative programs celebrated Independence Day. Residents created paintings that reflected their perspective on our country. These works are now on display for all to enjoy.

From Resident Carol Custer

Sometimes it’s nice to be reminded…

A nice man delivered a chair to me from the store where I bought it. He looked around and said, “This place is really nice — how do you like living here?” And of course I responded, “I love it. I’ve been here a year and haven’t had one moment’s regret for moving here.” He nodded and said “It’s funny. I go to a lot of senior residences and always ask that question. In most places, it’s divided — some say they like it OK, some say they hate it. But here at The Covington I’ve never had any negative responses. Everyone seems so friendly and happy — and they all say they really like living here.” I smiled and said, “The Covington is as close to perfect as any of us can get!”
