July was filled with events and outings at The Canterbury. Below are some of the activities that were enjoyed last month.

Our country’s birthday was celebrated with a delicious meal. From ribs and corn to other traditional favorites, it was a day filled with tastes of our country and stories of connection.
Residents gathered to create red, white and blue wreaths to celebrate the Fourth of July.

Ward H. celebrated his 103rd birthday. Born in 1922, he’s lived through so many historic events, from The Depression, to Pearl Harbor, the first man walking on the moon and so much more. LA County Towns Choir performed and his family and friends joined in wishing him a happy birthday. When asked about the secret to his longevity, he says, “You have to keep moving. The minute you stop, everything stops.”

Omnilore presented a lecture by Shera Dolmatz: Bright Flight: Fireflies and Bioluminescence. The discussion enlightened us about the biology, habitat and conservation of fireflies and their role in art and literature.

Harpist, pianist and composer Minta Spencer performed for residents. She blends classical techniques with innovation to create immersive, memorable musical experiences.

Timmi Jandro from Energy Muse brought a bead bar to The Canterbury. Residents made bespoke bracelets from hand-selected stones.

Residents enjoyed a trip to the Blue Water Grill at the King Harbor Marina in Redondo Beach. It was a memorable day, set amidst sailboats, palm trees, great views and a wonderful lunch.
Resident Tony P. brought a group of residents to his Y’NOT Burgers restaurant in Torrence. The name of the restaurant is Tony’s name spelled backwards. He gave residents a VIP tour of the restaurant followed by a delicious meal.
