    Parkinson’s Disease

    Join us as we welcome Dr. Neal Hermanowicz, Neurologist in the Parkinson’s and Movement Disorders Program at Hoag’s Pickup Family Neurosciences Institute. Parkinson’s disease is the world’s fastest-growing neurological disorder, surpassing Alzheimer’s disease, yet researchers still do not know its exact cause. Treatments continue to improve, but a cure remains elusive. Dr. Hermanowicz will discuss the diagnosis of Parkinson’s Disease, treatments, and the status of current research.

    Zoot was severely burned as an infant, losing the muscles in his right foot, yet went on to a 12-year career as a professional dancer, actor, and international touring artist working with Prince, Michael Jackson, Arsenio Hall, and James Cameron among others. In addition to raising more than $32 million for various organizations, he built four art centers for the City of LA, a Boys & Girls Club, and a Theatre for the City of Long Beach.     Armchair Astronomer — Galilean Moons: Volcano to Icebox

    Ken Vanlew, retired astronomy & physics teacher, joins us via Zoom to discuss the four largest moons of Jupiter, discovered by Galileo in 1609. Originally called Medicean Stars, they range from volcanic, spewing geysers to cold Callisto with ice hundreds of miles thick. The moons orbit Jupiter in times that range from fewer than 2 days to more than 16 days and influence each other with tidal pulls.
