    Armchair Astronomer, Betelgeuse: Orion’s Giant Star

    Learn about Betelgeuse, the bright red supergiant star at Orion’s left shoulder. It’s bright only because of its huge size, some 80X the size of the Sun, but it’s a relatively cool star. Betelgeuse is predicted to go supernova in the near future in astronomical time scales, but could be anytime in the next 100,000 years.
